Occupational Therapy Association of Turkey was founded in 2005. Occupational therapy helps us engage in the occupation of living. Life is made up of meaningful everyday activities or occupations. When we cannot participate in daily occupations, due to injury, illness, disability or social and environmental circumstances, occupational therapists help find solutions to address the meaningful everyday activities of life. Occupational therapy also helps prevent disability or illness and enhances the way we participate in our communities and lives. 

Occupational Therapy Association of Turkey develops occupational therapy as a national and an international science and art. The Association carries out works on the national and  international practice and the development of occupational therapy and carries out works on the participation of disadvantaged and disabled individuals to the society and on social inclusion. The Association works for improving education, health, social, cultural rights and social inclusion for disadvantaged, disabled peoples and families. 

Occupational Therapy Association of Turkey works with the relevant Ministries and nongovernmental organizations to create all kinds of policies for the social participation of disabled people.

Occupational Therapy Association of Turkey is non profit and non governmental organisation. The aims of Association are to provide quality practice of occupational therapy and promote high standarts client –centered occupational therapy services in different clinical areas, to collaborate with stakeholders and professional associations, health and human service organizations, to promote the understanding of the relationship between engagement in healthy and accessible environments, occupational engagement and health and well-being, to  continue professional education and practice resources to support occupational therapists understanding and use of accessibility principles, to collaborate in research to promote universal design for occupational engagement of disabled people. Universal design contributes to health and well-being by enabling engagement in self-care, productivity and leisure. Association works in a variety of educational settings to support the participation of children and youth in a wide range of academic and non-academic activities.

The staff has extensive experience in rehabilitation clinical practice and teaching related with accessibility and disability. Regarding this background, Association’s  staff has experience in universal design on disability issues and social participation. 

Occupational Therapy Association of Turkey is a full member of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) since 2012  and is a member of the European Network of Occupational Therapy  in Higher Education (ENOTHE) since 2005
